A Welcoming Space for the Red Cliffs Community

Building a stronger community through connection, learning, and belonging.

About Red Cliffs Community Resource Centre

Red Cliffs Community Resource Centre is a proud member of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria and a registered Learn Local provider.
As the heart of the Red Cliffs community, we exist to bring people together — to build connections, create social inclusion, empower through adult education, and share skills and resources.

We are a not-for-profit neighbourhood house governed by a Committee of Management and supported by local partners, volunteers, and state government funding.

Our Story

Our centre was formed through years of collaboration with local residents, community groups, and service providers who identified a shared need: a space for people to connect, learn and grow. The building has a colourful history: Built in 1925 as The Diggers Rest Café Later renamed The Steak and Hoist, known for hoisting meals to the upstairs veranda It’s since been home to a leadlighting shop, deli (which produced Horeground Ginger Beer), a hairdresser, and a boarding house In 1991, Mallee Family Care purchased the building and, after renovations, opened it as a community centre in May 1992. By 2007, the centre became independent under its own Committee of Management, where it continues to operate for the benefit of the Red Cliffs community.
